In a Nut Shell

Michelle is the mindful calm in the eye of the storm. An enthusiastic believer in the creative process and effective talent sourcing, she’s honed her ability to step into chaos and successfully move concepts into reality both on domestic and off-shore productions. She began freelancing in 2005, after years on staff at JWT, Saatchi & Saatchi & Grey.  She’s freelanced for both large and small agencies, on diverse projects ranging from beauty to pharmaceutical advertising.

She lives in Harlem with her husband and chocolate lab and also works on projects focused on creative collaborations. She loves gathering people around growing and eating food. She is the founder of the not-for-profit initiative, Seeds to Soil that uses a community-based, participatory design process to design and build rooftop gardens. She facilitates collaboration and conflict management workshops and is a founding member of Prime Produce, a cooperatively run social impact space in Hell’s Kitchen.

What Does She Do?
Michelle discovers artists and existing artwork that complete Art Directors’ creative visions, while meeting budget, deadline and production specifications. She manages complex projects with multiple partners and has a working knowledge and understanding of a wide range of organizations’ structures and processes. She recognizes that small actions matter and a well-managed creative process can make anything possible.

What Do People Who Have Worked With Michelle Want You To Know About Her?
Graham Button, Principal Bravo Echo
I have worked with Michelle on projects at Grey Worldwide, and subsequently hired her as a consultant and art buyer at Genesis. She is a big thinker, has an extremely high taste level, is a great collaborator, and she’s an absolute pleasure to work with. I recommend her highly. She consistently brought world-class talent to brands I was handling.

Michelle Calabro, Creative Thinker and Maker
Translator of Worlds.
End-Gamer of Peace.

The stuff of her work is the “how,”
not the “what.”

She’s steady through the chaos
of creative projects,
not merely in service to our chemistry
but also our product.

Braver than most,
she puts herself on the boundaries
between our shifting industries,
drawing unexpected connections
between people, ideas, and brands.

The long stories of her relationships
are written anew
in each moment
of collaboration.

Home Nguyen, CEO at MindKind Institute
Michelle is a creative out-of-the-box thinker. She demonstrates that she not only can think creatively, but also is committed to turning ideas into workable and practical solutions. While she is a big-idea-thinker, she remains grounded in her mindfulness and genuinely cares for the well-being of the people she works with. I had a chance to work with her on a project related to a TEDx presentation where she showed me that her enthusiasm is contagious and her commitment to quality service is highly effective.
